If you have old cassette tapes or any type of digital audio, Voices and Images can transcribe your audio into a Microsoft Word or Apple Pages document. If you have interviewed a parent or grandparent, this audio needs to be typed into a word processing program. You must have your audio file converted to write their story.

Basically, transcription involves listening to a recording of something and typing the contents up into a document, which is then returned, giving you a written record of what’s on the recording. Typically, this will be an interview — which might be something a journalist has undertaken with someone they’re writing about, or part of a study where a researcher has interviewed subjects and needs to record their responses, or a recording you made of a chat with your grandmother. It can take absolutely ages to type out a recording like this — much longer than you think it will, particularly if you don’t type very fast!
Transcription is the art of listening to speech and converting it into a written document. At Voices and Images, we employ the industry-standard ExpressScribe software to enable your audio or video files to be typed into a Microsoft Word or an Apple Pages document. We understand the nuances of how to handle inaudible audio and do the diligence required in finishing this transcript.

A permanent written record of audio files provides an invaluable resource. It allows meetings and events to be searched for key terms. Reading through a document is much quicker than listening through the entire audio. Poor quality audios can be quite cumbersome and challenging to listen through, but reading a well-written document is a breeze. Transcripts never depreciate in value, get worn down, or are at risk of being lost. The written word can last many years. Digital audio needs to be checked periodically and migrated as technology and digital storage requirements change.
Please submit your audio files to Voices and Images via email or a digital flash drive. All transcribed audio files are returned to you via email and on a digital flash drive.
