Our story is about much more than ourselves. Next to our parents’, siblings have had a big impact on our lives. In this blog post I want to provide you with some topics/questions you can use to write about the role our siblings might have played in our life story.
Were you the oldest, youngest or somewhere in the middle?
How many brothers and sisters did you have?
Who was your favorite and why?
Were you required to babysit any of your younger brothers or sisters?
How did you feel about that?
Do you tease them today about having to care for them?
Write about any funny stories between you and your siblings when you were supposed to be taking care of them.
Describe each of their personalities.
Which one of them were you closest to and which one did you fight with.
Did you share a bedroom?
What fun things did you all do together?
If you lived on a farm your brothers and sisters might have been your only playmates. What kind of games did you play? Did you share in chores?
What were some of the things you all got into trouble doing?
Are you still close to any of your siblings, do you keep in touch with them?
Be sure to name them all and give their birthdates. Be sure to describe them all, were they tall, heavy or pretty. Tell stories that help to describe them.
Contact your brothers and sisters to ask them about growing up. Ask them to tell you things they remember about you.
Remember to describe their skills and talents. Your siblings are the aunts and uncles of your children. Be positive and but tell fun stories about them.
Our stories include our parents, grandparents and brothers and sisters. Celebrate them in your story
